Summary
Longitudinal sinusoidal wave. You can modify the frequency and the wavelength.
Particle displacement is parallel to the direction of wave propagation. At any time, look at the red particle to understand that all particles simply oscillate back and forth along their individual equilibrium positions.
Learning objectives
  • To distinguish longitudinal from transverse waves.
  • To modify the principal characteristics of a wave.
  • To show that the particles simply oscillate about their individual equilibrium positions.
How to use the animation

Click and drag the   slider to modify the frequency and the wavelength.

Click on 'Amplitude' and drag the A cursor to set a new amplitude.
