Introduction

Summary

The magnetic field of an infinite, current carrying wire is determined for any point in space, by applying the principle of superposition of magnetic fields.

Goals

  • To illustrate the geometric construction based on the principle of superposition and the symmetry of the distribution.
  • To visualize the projections that go into obtaining the vector sum.
  • To pass back and forth between vectors and lines of force.
  • To observe the link between the electric field and the mapping of the lines of force.
