Introduction

Summary

Induction occurs when the flux of B through a closed loop varies. The orientation of B relative to the loop surface varies.

Keep in mind that this experiment is the basis for the principles underlying many power plants.

Goals

  • To illustrate a simple and historic experiment performed by Faraday in 1831 to study the laws of induction.
  • To emphasize that whether it is the magnet or the conducting loop that turns, the effect is the same.
  • To introduce the problem of relativity that was resolved by Einstein 80 years later.

Features

Click on to stop and on to restart.

You can choose to move either the magnet or the conducting loop.
