Summary

An ecological pyramid is a quantitative representation of the trophic levels of a food chain. There are three types of ecological pyramids:

  • Pyramid of numbers
  • Pyramid of biomass
  • Pyramid of energy

The detrivores and decomposers are not always represented in these pyramids but they play an essential role in the cycle of materials.
